Finding Your Way to WYC’s Offices

The nearest bus stops are:
• Upper Brook Street – approximately a 2 minute walk to the building
• Jewry Street – approximately a 5 minute walk
We are located between Papa John’s and Catch Fish and Chips.
The sign on the building says “The Winchester Centre.”
As you approach the entrance, there is an intercom on the left.
Press 303 and then press Call.
If you are unsure what to say, you can say:
“Hello, my name is … and I am here for counselling.”
The door will buzz open automatically. Stand back and wait for the door to open.
Walk up the stairs and follow the signs for Winchester Youth Counselling, which is located on the second floor.
There is also a lift available to the left of the stairs on the ground floor.

When You Arrive
You can use any of the toilets in the building. They are all gender-neutral facilities.
At the top of the stairs you will find the Winchester Youth Counselling door. You do not need to knock, just go straight in.
When you enter there will be someone at the desk. Go up to them and say your name.
For example:
“Hi, my name is …”
They will ask you to take a seat.
Your counsellor will then come to collect you and take you to your session room.
Photos of the counsellors can be found on the website in the Meet the Team section.
Your session will usually take place in the same room each time.
What Happens in Your Session and How to Advocate for Yourself
Do not be afraid to ask your counsellor for adjustments. They are there to help and support you.
You might consider asking for:
• the overhead lights to be turned off if they are too bright
• more time to answer questions
• a short break during the session
• information about what will happen in the next session
You can also bring items that help you feel comfortable, such as stim toys or communication cards.
If you wish, someone can accompany you to the session, although they will need to wait outside during the appointment.
If you think of something after the session that you wanted to say, you can email admin@winchyc.org or write it down and bring it to your next appointment.
There may also be some informal conversation at the beginning of your session to help you feel comfortable.
We look forward to welcoming you.
